Just over this ridge [showing a photo of Area 51], tucked
inside the test tubes of a hidden government base, the secrets of
the universe may be unfolding. The area is designated S-4, and
according to one man who claims to have worked there, S-4 harbors
scientific achievements that would astonish our deepest
thinkers. It is technology that, if it exists, could change the
world, but is allegedly bottled up by military minds.

Lazar: "It's not an overall government project. It's not
something that Congress appropriates money for. 2 billion is for
this; 15 billion for flying saucers; 8 billion for Star Wars. It
doesn't go like that. I don't believe that they have any
    knowledge of it at all."

The technology that Bob Lazar says he saw extends far beyond
flying saucers. An anti-matter reactor allows the spaceships to

Robert Lazar, guest

George Knapp:
Hello, and welcome to On the Record.

One month ago, we began a series of reports about UFOs. With the
exception of a few cranky newspaper people, the response has been
overwhelmingly positive. We've had requests for more information
from all over the country and from all over the world. Tonight
we're going to delve a little deeper into the subject with the
man who was the impetus for our report in the first place, Bob
Lazar.

Bob, good to have you here. A thumbnail sketch of yourself for
those who might not be familiar with your background.

Robert Lazar:
I worked at Los Alamos National Lab.

Engineers, Scientists Encourage Using Highly Classified
Technology for Civil Applications - William B. Scott/Los Angeles:

''A small fraction of "black world" engineers and scientists are
encouraged by recent government commitments to open intelligence
agency files, and congressional threats to curtail funding for
  some highly classified projects.

Such chilling prospects normally would be viewed with alarm by
all who get paychecks from U.S. intelligence agencies, but a few
technical personnel see opportunity instead of gloom. This minority
hopes issues raised over the last two years are bearing fruit now,
and might push some black technology into the open eventually.

In voicing their view, this small group of scientific professionals
dared to break a code of silence that rivals the Mafia's, and
several individuals claim they have suffered accordingly. Two said

aircraft designer Kelly Johnson and one of the Lockheed Company test pilots
who were out in a light plane looking for a secure facility to use in the
testing and pilot training phases of the CIA U-2 program. The U-2 pilots
called the place Watertown Strip. Lockheed employees have usually called the
place The Ranch.

The Lockheed Company pilot accompanying Kelly Johnson on this trip was
supposedly the great Lockheed test pilot, Tony LeVier. I believe all this
was circa 1955 or so.

Recently the number of places called The Ranch by Lockheed employees, and
other government and company employees, has grown to at least two. For
example the Tonapah Test Range (TTR) is in the northwest corner of the Nellis
Complex. TTR is also called The Ranch by some.

There is a little information about this very early Groom history
in Kelly Johnson's biography. Also some of it is in Francis Gary Power's
book "Overflight" and also in Gann's novel about U-2 pilots, "Black Watch".

Now for some interesting hints about some of the stuff they may have out
there 'on the range'.

The reference to "a ranch they call number fifty-one" (in my mind) refers to
the area fifty one near Las Vegas.

Get this second verse

They're gonna put it down
On the Vegas strip
They're gonna put it down
On the Vegas strip
They're gonna put it down
and step outside
into the lights
right outta that ship
saying HI!

If that doesn't convince you then listen to the last line of the same song:
i'm almost there to Vegas where they're puttin' on a show they've come so far

At first you'll only hear it, a high-pitched whining sound
in the distance. Risking eye damage, you squint into the desert
glare trying to locate the source of the sound. Suddenly you'll
see it. It's an ominous-looking aircraft, perfectly flat on the
bottom, pyramidal on the top.
Roaring across the high desert with its twin tail and swept
back wings, it looks like a large black swallow. As it gets
closer, you'll feel the urge to duck down among the lizards and
the cacti. Such action is meaningless, though, for if you can
see it, it can see you. So just stand and watch the Nighthawk go
through its paces.
