It was neccessary for me to issue the information previous to
this release in a manner which would deceive the Government
until someone was able to independently confirm my identity,
my employment, my service record, my intelligence background,
the identity of the person to which I gave the information to

was given to him, that the information is correct, that I
have not seen him since 1974, and that I have not

Recent revelations have shown that at least a small number of the surviving
rumors deserve a day in court, most notably the Roswell, NM incident of 1947,
involving the alleged crash of a UFO and the recovery and study of the debris
(and bodies) at Wright Field (now Wright-Patterson AFB, OH).

A relatively new rumor has surfaced which we would like to discuss in some
detail because it is new and it bears some interesting connections to old
stories. CAUS does not yet endorse this as fact. Our long-standing policy of
requiring conclusive government documentation still stands and will always
stand. We have yet to see such documentation in this instance. Nevertheless, it
is hoped that open discussion will elicit practical response toward proving or
burying this latest tale.

During the final stages of "CLEAR INTENT" [Greenwood and Fawcett, 1984], I
had collected documents related to multiple sightings of UFOs over Kirtland
AFB, NM in August, 1980. The story of this series of reports is in the Epilog
of CLEAR INTENT. What wasn't inserted in the book was a document, allegedly a
government document, which had made the rounds in the so-called UFO grapevine.
It told of an analysis performed of the "Dr. Bennewitz" photographic data which
had been part of the subject matter in the confirmed AFOSI [Air Force Office of

Roswell object were a strange device of some sort, then involvement of the
individuals listed as MJ 12 would make sense.

My first thoughts upon seeing this list of people is that if a UFO had
crashed and was recovered, this would be the kind of panel that I would want to
put together to investigate the matter. All of these individuals were at the
top in their respective areas of experience during the late 1940's and had the
added benefit of government experience behind them. The Majestic 12 indeed!

A number of them were later involved in the UFO phenomenon. In fact, fully
half of the panel would make a mark on UFO history during and after 1947:

o Hoyt Vandenberg - said to have read the now-famous 1948 "Estimate of the
Situation" and subsequently ordered it downgraded and destroyed for lack of
evidence that UFO's were interplanetary.

o Roscoe Hillenkoeter - Former board member of NICAP and proponent of UFO
reality.

on his own, the three teamed up ona research project that would
take them further into the strange world of government involvement
with Unidentified Flying Objects than anyone in the civilian
field is known to have ever gone before. This project involved
anonymous government agents sharing research pointers and dialogue
alleging that UFOs are indeed extraterrestrial spacecraft and that
certain elements of the U. S. intelligence community continue
to maintain a high-level but covert interest in this phenomenon
at a time when official position statements assert that there is
no government interest whatsoever.Over the past seven years, the
Moore-Shandera-Friedman team, working closely with a number of
other associates both in the news media and within the civilian
UFO community, has aggressively pursued contacts, developed
sources, and carefully researched leads. Numerous interviews
were conducted and many days were spent combing through records
at the National Archives in Washington,D.C. as well as both the

	MJ-12 - THE EUROPEAN CONNECTIONS
       ----------------------------------

Initially the MJ12 papers were sent to Mr. Shandera in an envelope,
post marked Albuquerquee, as undeveloped 35mm film. Later on Moore
published them. Their publication caused a great deal of surprise
mixed with doubts and anxiety in UFO circles worldwide. Some admitted
them without any questions to be authentic, some did not. There was
some preliminary work done with regards to their authenticity and the
saga still continues today. What is important in this event is that
Mr. Moore's ex-colleague or colleague, Stanton Friedman is commissioned
to carry out further research on these documents. The funds are provided
to him by the Fund For UFO Research and MUFON, so I am told. The role
of the funding organizations in itself is raising some questions. One
might ask why? For example, at the time when Moore was busy discrediting
Paul Bennewitz for obvious reasons, Bruce Maccabee was following similar
track, suggesting indirectly, thru his own so called independent inquiry,
more or less what Moore was implying. This is quite obvious in Maccabee's
correspondence with MacCampell. (Some copies of these correspondence are

to Friedman and Moore. Many people who handled the very strange
materials have testified that the material could not have been from
a radar reflector. Ten first-hand witnesses are on record as having
stated that the object was, in fact, some sort of space craft.3. Was
there any evidence of strange writing on the retrieved material?
Yes. five persons who actually handled pieces of the wreckage have
described very unusual symbols on pieces of the wreckage.4. Is there
any evidence that President-elect Eisenhower received a military
briefing on 18 November, 1952? Yes. Information at the Eisenhower
Library and in the Truman files indicates White House and Pentagon
briefings on that date. A Washington _Post_ article also confirms
a briefing on that date.5. Is there any evidence that Bush and
Forrestal met with Truman on Sept. 24th,1947? Yes. Forrestal's
diary, Bush's files and the Truman Library listing of Presidential
activities all establish that Bush and Forrestal first met with each
other and then with Truman on that date. Bush and Forrestal often
met witheach other during the 1947-1949 time frame.6. Is there any
evidence that the Cutler to Twining "Top Secret-Eyes Only" memois

I don't intend to debunk the MAJESTIC TWELVE scenario. Many

material with very inflammatory overtones that should either be

This kind of information also has the dreadful earmark of
